The Message…
A game of beach tennis begins with a salute to the Italian orignis of the game - 'Pare, dispare' - even or odds. Similar to a game of 'scissors, paper, rock' the player who calls correctly gets the opportunity to serve first.

As Erica Belling reports in this months Australian Tennis Magazine!  Beach Tennis is revolutionizing recreation!  And the world is now starting to catch on! Check it out

Flying Frenchmen take home the Aussie Championship with local favourties winning the Women's events

Once again the Open Championships provided some amazing highlights, re-uniting old friends and unearthing of new talent.

It would see our French Internationals back on Australian sand, in an effort to wrestle our championship, from local and intersate competitors.

The Open Men's Doubles (European Cup) event was hotly contested with the Coulet Brothers of France  steeling the silverware in an amazing final, fighting back in the elimination match. Bertrand would also make it a clean sweep in the NUDIE Men's Open singles and Over 35s.

The Women's Open Doubles  (European Cup)was won by local legends and pasionate players, Kellie de Burgh and Anna Brown. The NUDIE Cup Open Womens Singles saw the making of a future champion in Belinda O'Connor, who's power and athleticness, was the defining factor.

Once again it was amazing tournament, a phenomenal display of skill and fitness, and most of all played in the true spirit of the sport.

We look forward to a bigger and stronger event in 2009.

Aussie Junior Championship was a Huge Hit!

MANGOS BROTHERS GO BANANA's!!

Whilst it was not a moment too late, after the original date for our Juniors being cancelled due to high winds and 42 degree heat, the kids put on an Awesome show.

The event saw a pioneering effort from kids ranging from 9-15 years of age.

The 12 and under singles event for boys and girls was well represented with the final between the 2007 Boys Champion Louchie de Burgh and new kid on the block, Corey Mangos. Corey was the eventual winner, in a thriller and a game of great skill for age.  With Ben and Harrison super competitve in 3rd.

In the girls we would see the height and secret practice routines of Finn Daniels, get her across the line in a tighly contested girls final against our highly spirited Laura Mulchay, with Phoebe snapping at their heels in 3rd place.

Awesome effort girls and boys, we look forward to next year already!

In the 12 and under doubles;

Boys: 1st Corey & Chris Mangos

         2nd Phoebe & Alex

         3rd Lochie & Lochie

Girls:   1st Finn & Steph, Eliza & Briana

           2nd Claudia & Isabella

           3rd Laura & Erin

In the 16's we saw Conor Daniher, lock out his brother to steal the final in a close and mental tussle. Well done boys!

The 16 and under doubles, would see Conor and his good friend Ryan show Oliver and Lachie a clean set of heels, edging them out in the final. A great effort by all kids and played in the true spirit of the game. No doubt next year will see a little more experience and consistency to challenge the champions.

Thanks to all the kids who particpated and competed. You should all be very proud in the way you portray sportsmanship and passion on the beach tnenis court.

High Fives all round!

We would like to also take the opportunty to praise and thank

all of the sponsors and supporters of this years Championships. We would also thank the players and especially those who volunteered and gave their time, to ensure the success of the tournament.

Twilight Beach Tennis Tuesday & Wednesday

Is going off!

With lots of new players, great competition and friendships formed on Wacky Wednesday nights, and Advanced Tuesdays.  We have seen a very social dynamic hit Port Melbourne. Along with a couple of quiet ones, at The London, it is sure to be a very enjoyable night. Lloydy Esler has got the most frequent flyers at the London and has also gained the tag of "Mr Consistent" and Liz Milroy as " Most Improved"

There has been many highlights over the summer, and we look to a bright future in Port as we hope this will sporn great new talent and fun in the game.

The one thing that stands out, is the commitment to play on Melbourne's most windy nights. But that's Melbourne.

As we draw to the end of daylight saving, we hope to continue over the Autumn period at another time, stay tuned!!
