Yes, the post will be in the holes very soon and to celebrate on Sunday October 14th, we will host the Summer Open Day, to welcome the community.

The day will feature Come Try Beach Tennis, and a chance to have a first hand experience of why we are so passionate. Great time to come down and give it a go, and register your interest for any of our Beach Tennis programs and or competitions.

***All equipment provided and instruction on the day.

Come and challenge some of our current players for a chance to test your skill.

The National Soccer League current champions, Melbourne Victory will also be there. Come down and take a few shots on goal, and win prizes in the penalty shootout.

Pickup Soccer matches and skill sessions for the kids and autograph signings, are also a feature of the day.

Along with the support of Genesis Southport Health Club in Beacon Cove, and a chance to come down and check out the club, it looks set to be a great day.

Even Liam or Lane, might cook you a sausage on the barbie.

These are exciting times, and as we see more and more people venturing on to the sand, the message is clear and the future is bright.

BeachFest starts from 10am - to around 3pm.

Australia's latest success at the recent World Championships in Italy, were rested on the shoulders of Melanie Henderson and Belinda O'Connor. 

Rising to the occasion both Belinda and Mel represented their country with pride and integrity, with performances of world championship quality. They not only finished 8th in the overall standings, they were the highest ranked international pairing in the open event, for women. It really shows how far they have come, with the Italian standard, going up another notch at these years Championships.

When asked of what attributed to the success of their efforts, they replied it was our ability to handle the big points, to know that if we focussed on consistency and teamwork, all the rest would fall into place.

 The grade 3 Pennant combination from Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, reaching the semi-finals this year, also commented that the ability to have a good season on the hard court, was influential in providing us with the teamwork and belief that we were on our game. The combination of beach tennis and tennis, provided us with some great mental aspects to draw upon under pressure, and the sand fitness of beach tennis gave us the legs we needed to compete at the highest level.

The 2 girls were also seen shopping up a storm, whilst on the trip, and were voted by our Italian counterparts as the most stylish and sheik fashion plates. Congratulations, you made a great impression.

The girls now look set for a great summer of beach tennis, as the move toward the up and coming Australian International Beach Tennis Open Championship from January 11- 13, 2008 is in their sights. They will no doubt be amongst the favourites for the women’s event.

We would also like to thank all our supporters and sponsors of the Australian Team, and welcome any new support of beach tennis that will ensure we send the message of fun for all, health and sport!

The summer of 2007/08 will see beach tennis come to Port Melbourne. Mapley in conjunction with the City of Port Phillip has secured a home for the sport in the Beacon Cove region.

These are very exciting times for the sport, and with the support of the City of Port Philip, it has all been made possible. It wasn't all that long ago, that very little was known about the sport, beach tennis was but a dot on the horizon.

Past times have seen many revelations in the sport. New and exciting initiatives are on the horizon, to further unearth the passion and journey of this great game.

Beach Tennis will look toward taking up it residence in Port Melbourne in October, 2007. We would like to welcome all those who have participated over the previous summer and those who are wanting something fresh and new, albeit to add to their fitness regime, to come and be part of something special. With this in mind, MBT wishes to cater for all your needs, and look to satisfy those who hunger for more competition in twilight graded beach tennis.

Twilight will begin on 16th October, 2007. To hit it off, a 4 week team competition that will incorporate, men and women in a mixed and social competition.

 What a great opportunity for local companies or business houses to enter as a team, or individuals to enter a more formal way. This is a great way of trying to better your game and skills in a highly social and fun environment.

Days: Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Teams: will be made up of 2 men and 2 women (or minimum 1 woman)and will feature a doubles, mixed played by all players. Teams will be graded based upon ability.

Matches will commence at 6:15pm with warm-up beginning at 6pm. and be completed in approx 1 1/4 hours.

Remember daylight savings begins early October. Yeah!!

And KIDS, don’t forget, matches and fun games for children 10 and over start at 4:30, until 5:30 at a cost $5 per player, on Mondays and other selected days.

 We hope to see you there and come together to join a fraternity of tribal proportions, BEACH TENNIS!

2nd Australian International Open Beach Tennis Championship

Once again we welcome our international players coming to our shores to challenge raw Aussie talent, for a tilt of another Championship on the World Tour.  Afterall, we did see 2 main draw players of the Tennis variety, enter the beach tennis event last year.

Volunteers, we also welcome you! If you have some time to give around this time and would like to be involved, contact us and we would be happy to welcome you on board.

Start practicing today! Over the coming months, we will be promoting and marketing to schools, clubs and sporting organisations.

As Wimbledon's grass favours big servers and has been labelled too fast, Roland Garros's clay has been criticised for being too slow. Does this mean that the sand at next January's  Beach Tennis Australian Championships will be the preffered surface?

Once again Mapley Beach Tennis has joined forces with the local SLSC to create what will be an exciting and holistic approach to the way sport and use of facilities can be shared amongst the community. Paul along with the committee of South Melbourne SLSC, have seen the advantage of working together and becoming strong in the community and working towards providing a vibrant and hub of activity that embraces and identifies with all locals and visitors to the area.

South Melbourne again will host the International in January 2008.

What is the easiest way to play beach tennis?

First of all, go to the website, www.mapleybeachtennis.com and view the options. Second look for the flags at either South Melbourne, or Port Melbourne.

Next thing to follow is that you jump the fence, step onto the sand, kick off your shoes, grab a racquet and start playing.

You don't even need a Racquet, we can provide that too. All equipment is provided, and can also be purchased on site. Instruction and information is readily available to ensure you know, how to get out there.
